I am a student at St Francis of Assisi Catholic School. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.

STOP Climate Change!
Reading!
Hello and welcome back to Megan's blog. Today I'm talking to you about climate change and global warming, yes this stuff is all happening. In my reading group we have been reading about all these things. here is some of the facts that I learnt...
Renewable Energy
Anything with energy does something towards our environment also climate change is caused because of things not being put in the rubbish. Renewable energy is energy that is collected from renewable resources, and it is terrible for our environment.
Global Warming
Global warming is when a whole planets average temperature rises. All planet's absorb energy from the sun. On earth, we experience this energy mostly as light. But planets also reflect heat. The heat energy radiates out from the surface of the planet back into space.
Nitrogen
Nitrogen is a element used by plants and animals to build amino acids. Amino acids make up the proteins that help plants and animals to grow. Farmers add nitrogen to the soil as fertiliser to speed up plant growth, but microbes in the soil also use nitrogen.
Greenhouse Gases
Farmings a huge part of greenhouse gases. A cow does a average release between 70 and 120 kg of Methane per year. Methane is a greenhouse gas like carbon dioxide But the negative effect on the climate of Methane is 23 times higher than the effect of carbon dioxide.

Ready Set Maths!
Hello and welcome back to Megan's blog. In the Tumu hub we have been doing Math boards these. They are things that show you understand the question that you are trying to answer. There are four boxes and a diamond in the middle. In the diamond it says a problem or equation that you have to answer and in the boxes they say, write a story, solve it numerically, solve it visually and solve it another way. These questions that you answer will prove that you can answer the equation or problem in the diamond. Our teachers got this idea from when they went to Hamilton to learn some more things about teaching. There teacher was Joe Bowler Professor of Mathematics Education at the Stanford Graduate School of Education. I think math boards are really fun and there not to hard and not to easy.
Have you ever made something like this in maths?

Winter sports
Hello and welcome back to Megan's blog. In the tumu winter sports is something we do. There are 4 different sports to choose from soccer, rugby, hockey and last but not least NETBALL. I am playing netball for winter sports. there are 3 different teams A, B and C I am in the B. The players in my team are Myself, Lara, Sophie, Santara, Ariella, Caoimhe, Elsha and Cory. We played our first game yesterday 16th of may against St Anne's. It was a very close game and fun to play. We ended up winning 8 to 6. It is a great thing to do and we are very lucky to be able to do it every Thursday of winter.

Inspiring Speakers!
In the tumu hub lately we have been learning about the environment. We have been thinking about our actions around the environment and how we can change the issues in our world right now. We have been lucky enough to have some parents come talk to us about there work and how they have helped the environment. We had a lady called Erica come in and talk to us about her work. She has her own business called EcoMe. She sells non plastic and reusable products like pegs, sporks, metal straws, coffee cups and reusable fruit and vege bags. personally my favourite product she brang in was the metal reusable straws because we have been using way to many straws and they only get used once in then ditched straight into the landfill and plus you can bye different colours.
Did this blog post help you to make a difference in this world?

Whats Today, Cross Country Day
Cross Country
It is here again... you guessed it, Cross country day. Yesterday on the 2nd of May my school st Francis did a 15 minute stroll there and back to Walter park to compete in the hardest race ever cross country. Me and my friends walked over to a place we could rest and relax until we raced around Walter park. Some of us started to eat, some read or played some game, we had to wait for about 2 hours. We started to stretch as our race was coming up soon , but after all that waiting it was final our turn to race we were walking over to the starting line with fear dripping of my shoulders. Miss Hansen yelled on your marks GO I was of I decided to save my sprinting for the end of the race so I was just jogging around the track I paced a couple of people then had a bit of a break then I started to run again, the same happened on the second lap except I was a bit more tired. I could see the finish line it was at reach so I picked up my pace and sprinted over the finish line I ended up coming 10th which I think is a good placing. I walked back with my friends relived that I completed the race.

Have you ever competed in cross country, if so what place did you come?

Kindness Is The Key To Success (PBL)!!!
PBL - Term 1
This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about kindness and the big question was:
How can we build community through our actions?
How can we build community through our actions?
First, we explored some collaborative activities and discussed how we could include kindness and build
a sense of community through our actions at camp. Next, we were organised into groups where we had
to unpack the above question. In our groups we considered how we could spread community and
kindness through our entire school community. We decided that we would offer something that was
free and would make others happy.

to unpack the above question. In our groups we considered how we could spread community and
kindness through our entire school community. We decided that we would offer something that was
free and would make others happy.
We created an action plan and came up with a few ideas to do:
first we thought of a bake sale to raise money but that didn't work out, so we thought of a rubbish pick up to make are community nice and clean. But in the end we chose to give out kindness quotes to reward those who show kindness all the time.

Reflection:
For our final product our group created quote cards and a small bag of candy to show our appreciation for those who show kindness in our school community.
How did our action build a sense of community in the school?
We built a sense of community by rewarding those who show kindness even when it is hard to.
I contributed by sharing my thoughts and ideas with the group and being there to give the
kindness quotes out to those who deserved one.

I think the PBL might impact on others by showing that you can be kind no matter what and that no act
of kindness no matter how small is ever wasted.

What I learned about working with others was team work can create an amazing product, and I
learnt to share my ideas more and be more patient.
