Going Back In Time At Ferry Mead!

Going Back In Time At Ferry Mead!

Hello and welcome back to Megan's blog, today I'm going to be talking to you about our trip to ferry mead. It was a warm Tuesday morning on October 29th and the tumu hub was ready to go on there big trip to ferry mead. We sat on the big bus and drove of. When we got there, most of our faces opened up with excitement. Our session was about the past of new Zealand. Before the fun began we were told the rules which were, keep your back straight, look after your shoes, children to be seen not heard and ladies before gentleman. After we were told the rules we got to dress up like the kids in the olden days, we wore a red, green or blue dress and a white apron over the top. Then we got sorted into our groups, then half of us went to morning tea and the other half played a game called "its in the bag", then we switched so my group half morning tea we had cheerios, animal crackers, marmite crackers and lamingtons. After this we got to explore the park in our groups, in my group was me, Eilish, Sophie, Beth, Carter, Zac, Blake, Noah and my parent help was Liz. My favourite parts were the jail and the school, at the jail there was a man who had a voice speaker and started to talk in a croaky tired voice. Then at the school we pretended it was the olden days, we had to sit up straight, we weren't aloud to make one sound, we had to write with a feather dipped in ink, then we were dismissed. At this trip to ferry mead a learnt loads, and managed to come back with a brain full of facts about the olden days.

Have You Ever Been To Ferry Mead Before, If So What Was Your Favourite Part?

My Letter, To My Mother!

My Letter, To My Mother!

At School For PBL our driving question is How can NZ's past influence our future. So we have been going around and doing rotations about the olden days. Today I'm Going to be sharing with you my favourite station, which was early settlers. In this rotation we had to write a letter to a loved one acting as if we have gone on a ship somewhere without them.
Here is my example of a letter.

To my dearest mother,

It has been a long and bumpy 5 weeks across the sea, im hungry and tired,
and the rain is bucketing onto the ship like crazy. The captain says 6 ships
have already sunk and I am worried our ship isn't going to make it. And now
every 5 minutes I find myself sticking my head out the window and vomiting.
Now I have to clean up my vomit and everyone else vomit! There aren't
many people my age here so I am feeling a bit alone. But luckily I have met
a kind hearted maid named senna who is helping me get over my home
sickness. I hope you are doing well, I miss you so terribly much and I can't wait to see you.

From your Seasick daughter Megan.

PBL Showcase!

PBL Showcase!

Hello and welcome back to Megan's blog, and today im going to be talking to you about my PBL this term. For PBL our driving question this term was how can innovation improve our lives. We had to get into groups in my group was Myself, Eilish, Beth, Jimi and Sophie. We had a few things we wanted to make like car tracker or a device holder. In the end we chose to make a device holder because it would  be that much easier to make and we found it more interesting. I missed 1 week of work as I went to Australia, but I still got to contribute in this PBL. Last night on the 25th of September we had our PBL showcase, where parents could come and see what we had been learning for our PBL throughout the term. about 10 parents came and a few kids and 3 teachers came and looked at our PBL. This terns PBL was so much fun to contribute in.

Super Sport!!!

Super Sport!!!

Hello and welcome back to Megan's blog, today I'm going to be talking to you about our sport day. On the 5th of September we were lucky enough to have the NZ institution of sport come to us and let us play fun games, our instructors were Millie and Junior. They games we got to play were multi sport, the sports we played were netball, netball with a tennis ball, basketball and touch. My favourite was netball because I play netball. The next thing we did was an obstacle course there was a moon hopper you had to jump on, there was a yoga ball that you had to do plank on, there was a tunnel, a balance board, hurdles, a hola hoop, a bing bag toss,  and lastly a skipping rope. We had to do these activities in order at least 2 times. After that we got to do rugby tackles, we had to run up against Junior and push him back as far as we could. After that we went outside ( even though it was raining ) and ran up against a squishy poll thingy and then catch a rugby ball then bash up against Steve ( a helper ) with the ball then we throw the ball back at Junior, and then we slid in the mud, it was epic. This was such a great experience.

How Has Technology Changed The Way We Learn?

Explanation writing!
Hello and welcome back to Megan's blog, today I will be talking to you about my most reason piece of explanation writing. Everyone in my home base had to write about how has technology changed the way we learn. Here is my piece of writing...

How has technology changed the way we learn?
Over the years of schooling, education has rapidly evolved.

The introduction of technology has changed the way students learn and the way teachers teach. The first piece of technology put in schools was way back in the 1980s when some high schoolers used computers to learn. But before that around the 1930s students used to write in books with a feather dipped in ink, then pens and pencils were later introduced. Students didn’t have access to the internet so they studied with lots of books. This would have been hard for them because they had no choice in how they learned, for example, we have the choice to do our math boards on paper or online. Students may have felt bored or tired because of how often they had to read throughout the day.

Nowadays we use Chromebooks to help us learn because we have access to the internet which makes learning easier for us. Although we use our Chromebooks most of the day, we still use pens and pencils when we work in our books. We also have projectors to cast our learning, and even TV’s ( televisions ).

Finally I would like to talk to you about the differences inside the classroom. Back in the 1930s classrooms had a chalkboard, although we still have chalkboards, in the classroom we have white boards. Another thing is desks, back in the day students had an assigned seat were they had to sit every day because all there books belonged underneath their desk. Nowadays since we have a portable device, we can sit anywhere we want because we have lots of huge tables. Students back in the day may have felt lonely and may have became very independent, because they had to sit by themselves all the time.

Those are my reasons on how technology has changed the way we learn!
